Imagine that you could never see well, it would be pretty easy to assume that not seeing well was normal – children may not complain that they do not see with clarity, as they have not experienced any comparison.

Many children as a consequence are not recognised as having visual problems until other problems such as learning difficulties or depth perception problems alert their parents or teachers that something is amiss.

We are able to test even very young children’s eyes and it is advisable that most children have an eye test before starting school to pick up and correct any vision problems early.

Not all children who experience difficulties with their sight will require glasses, many will be given exercises to improve the use of their muscles around their eyes, and may not need any further correction.

For a percentage of children that do require glasses we spend a lot of time explaining why and when they are to be used. All that is irrelevant to a child if for some reason they do not wear their glasses, so we spend just as much time finding a frame that is comfortable and of a style that they will be happy to wear.

We stock a good range of children’s frames, their facial structure is different to that of an adult and the fit is very important. It is no longer an unfortunate stigma for a child to wear glasses. Kids now look so cool in glasses their counterparts often wish they needed them too. Harry Potter has made life easier as has the great range of styles and colours now on the market.

For some active and sporty kids we can offer frames that are flexible and strong and polycarbonate lenses may be an additional requirement for greater durability.

For the pre teen and teenagers, when image is extremely important, we have a great range to choose from.

Children grow so quickly, just as they require new shoes after each growth spurt they may also need an eye test to determine if they have outgrown their prescription and we recommend re-testing every 12 months. And 10% off frames for all children and students makes it a little easier on the parents too.
